FAMILY DAYS AT MUNDELEIN SEMINARY
Project Type
Visit to Seminarians
Date
Annual Event
Location
Mundelein Seminary, Mundelein, IL
In the beginning of the school year, Mundelein Seminary holds a weekend to invite the family of seminarians by the time they are settled in the routine of the year. IT is called "Family Day" and parents and friends of seminarians from around the country would come and be with their seminarian sons and brothers. For the Filipino seminarians whose family are oversees, especially those who have just arrived for their first year of formation, this can be a sad day as they feel the distance of their loved ones from them. They have made the sacrifice knowing this experience is always at hand, but on a day like Family Day, they should never feel alone. SGFS members then go to the seminary and prepare a feast of Filipino food for the seminarians. It is also the usual time for them to meet the "new arrivals" in the flesh. A little bit of reassurance for these men goes along way and their realization that saying yes to the priesthood means belonging to a bigger family that the ones they left at home, it is the hope of SGFS that by being there for them, the sense of distance is somehow made closer even only by a little taste of home.
